c.560–546 BC). He expanded his domains to include all the Greek cities on the coast of Asia Minor, and the stories of his wealth indicate the extent of his power. However, he was unable to withstand
CYRUS II (the Great), and after his defeat Lydia entered the Persian empire of the Achaemenids.
