Academy The school established at Athens by
PLATO in the 380s BC, probably intended to prepare men to serve the city-state. It was as a philosophical centre that it became celebrated, its students including the philosophers
ARISTOTLE,
EPICURUS, and Zeno of Citium. Much of its history is obscure, but it survived until its closure by Justinian in 529 AD.
