Évian Agreements (18 Mar. 1962) A peace treaty signed in the French spa town of Évian by
Pompidou (for France) and
Ben-Bella (for the
FLN) which brought peace and independence to Algeria, after a ceasefire had been in operation since 21 February 1962. Subsequent referendums in Algeria and France ratified the agreements with overwhelming majorities, despite threats from colonialist terrorist organizations, and the
Organisation de l'Armée Secrète.
