MRP (Mouvement Républicain Populaire, Popular Republican Movement) A French Christian-socialist party, co-founded by G. Bidault in 1944, which occupied an important position as a centrist party in the Fourth Republic. Among its representatives was R. Schuman, a leading advocate of the party's policies of European integration. In 1958, it supported de Gaulle's return to lead the country. Increasingly marginalized by the political system of the Fifth Republic, it dissolved in 1967, with some of its members joining the Gaullists.
