Good Neighbor Policy (USA) A term used to describe the US Latin America policy of Secretary of State Cordell
Hull during the first term of President F. D.
Roosevelt. Based on the principle that no country has the right to intervene in the affairs of another, it reversed the
Roosevelt Corollary. It was implemented by the withdrawal of US marines from such countries as Haiti and Nicaragua and the abrogation of the Platt Amendment, which had given the US government a quasi-protectorate over Cuba. While it created much better relations between the USA and Latin America, the USA continued to follow Latin American affairs closely, and US influence reached a new high during and after World War II.
