Baghdad Pact (Feb. 1955) A treaty between Turkey and Iraq, which was at first aimed against militant Kurdish groups. It became a more comprehensive regional security treaty when it was joined later in the year by Pakistan, Iran, and the UK. It became ineffective after the Iraqi Revolution of 1958. Iraq withdrew formally in 1959. In that year, the USA joined what became CENTO.
