Grand National The most famous jumping race in the world. First run in 1839, it is a handicap for horses 6 years old and upwards, run near the end of March at Aintree, Liverpool. The course of 4 miles and 856 yards includes 30 jumps, such as the Canal Turn Fence, Valentine's Brook, and the notorious Becher's Brook.
