Octavian ♂ Usual English form of the Latin name Octavianus, a derivative of Octavius. The first Roman emperor, now generally known by the imperial title Augustus, was born Gaius Octavius; when he was adopted by Julius Caesar he became Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus. Another Octavianus was a 5th-century Carthaginian saint who was put to death with several thousand companions by the Asiatic Vandal king Hunneric.
