Danaë ♀ Name borne in Greek mythology by the daughter of Acrisius, who was ravished by Zeus in the form of a shower of gold; as a result she gave birth to the hero Perseus. Her name is of uncertain derivation; she was a great-great-granddaughter of
Danaus, the eponymous founder of the Greek tribe of the
Danai or Argives.
