Aonghas

Aonghas ♂ (Scottish) Pronounced ‘een-yis’; from Celtic words meaning ‘one’ and ‘choice’. This is the name of an ancient Celtic god, and is first recorded as a personal name in Adomnan's ‘Life of St Columba’, where it occurs in the form Oinogus(s)ius as the name of a man for whom the saint prophesied a long life and a peaceful death. This is also almost certainly the name of the 8th-century Pictish king variously recorded as Onnust and Hungus.

Also: Aonghus; Angus (Anglicized form).
