῾Abbās ♂ (Arabic) ‘Austere’. Abbās ibn ‘Abd-al-Muṭṭalib (c.566–652) was the Prophet's uncle and ancestor of the Abbasid caliphs, who ruled the Islamic world between 750 and 1258.
