New Radnor

New Radnor (Maesyfed) Powys. Raddrenoue 1086 (DB), Radenoura 1191, Radnore 1201, New Radenore 1298. ‘New Radnor’. The original Radnor, ‘red bank’ (OE rēad + ōra), was the present Old Radnor, called in Welsh Pencraig, ‘head of the rock’ (Welsh pen + craig). In 1064 the present Radnor was granted rights as the new centre of the region. Its Welsh name means ‘Hyfaidd's field’ (Welsh maes).
