Copyright
burin (or graver). The engraver's principal tool, consisting of a short steel rod mounted in a rounded wooden handle. Usually the rod is lozenge-shaped in section, cut obliquely at the end to provide a point. The handle is pushed by the palm of the hand while the fingers guide the point.
