SYLLABLE WORD. An occasional term in WORD-FORMATION for a word formed from SYLLABLES or syllable-like elements drawn from two or more other words: sial from the first syllables in silicon and alumin(i)um. Compare ACRONYM, LETTER WORD, MONOSYLLABLE.
