-ular repr. L. -ulāris (sometimes through F. -ulaire), f. -ulus, -ula, -ulum -ULE + -āris -AR, as in L. populāris POPULAR, rēgulāris REGULAR, sæculāris SECULAR. Some adjs. function as if connected directly to the bases of derivs. in -ule, as granular, apprehended as f. grain.
