(late Nhb.) þerh, þærch, Goth. þairh through, OHG. derh perforated; cf. further OE. þȳrel hole; the IE. base *tr- is seen in OIr. tre, tri, L. trans across. The metathetic forms (þruh, etc.) appear c. 1300. Comp. throughout adv. right through OE.; prep. XI. OE. þurhūt.
