Nunziatura di Fiandra

Nunziatura di Fiandra, the papal embassy at Brussels between 1596 and 1795, which dealt with Ireland, England, Scotland, Denmark, and Norway, as well as the affairs of the Low Countries. Headed by a nuncio or an internuncio, it supplied intelligence, often in the form of newsletters (avvisi), gathered from merchants and travellers, in addition to information on its own political and ecclesiastical transactions, to the secretariat of state and congregation of Propaganda Fide in Rome. Material of Irish interest in its archive was extensively calendared in the journal Collectanea Hibernica between 1958 and 1970.
