Nicholson, W. P. (1875–1959), a remarkably effective evangelist, particularly in Ulster, in the early 1920s. After experience in Scotland, Australia, and America, where he was ordained, Nicholson returned to Ulster, where large working‐class audiences responded to his homely, if sometimes vulgar, preaching. The results of his missions recalled the
revival of 1859. Some claim that he saved
Northern Ireland from sectarian civil war; others charge him with dividing congregations and churches.
