National Council, formed in 1903 by Arthur Griffith, Maud Gonne, and others to organize opposition to the forthcoming visit to Ireland of Edward VII, and continued as an advanced nationalist forum. In 1908 it merged with the Sinn Féin League (see dungannon clubs) to form Sinn Féin.
