MacMurrough

MacMurrough ( Mac Murchadha MacMurrough). On the death of Diarmait Mac Murchada, his nephew Murtough was recognized by Strongbow as king of Uí Chennselaig. From the late 13th century MacMurroughs claimed to be kings of Leinster. Their most successful leader, Art MacMurrough, succeeded in creating a strong territory in Wexford and Carlow from which he and his descendants were able to menace the Pale, and extract regular black rents, until they were brought under control in the late 16th century.
