Irish Folklore Commission
The Oxford Companion to Irish History

Copyright
Irish Folklore Commission, a state‐funded body established in 1935. It collected material on popular custom, tradition, and belief, using full‐and part‐time collectors throughout the country. A representative sample of its work may be found in the journal
Bealoideas (1927– ). The commission was disbanded in 1971, but its work is carried on by the Department of Irish Folklore at University College, Dublin, where its archives are housed.
