Eucharistic Congress

Eucharistic Congress (1932), the 31st in a series of international congresses organized by the Catholic church for the promotion of devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Held in Dublin 22–6 June 1932 it was sponsored by the archbishop of Dublin, Edward Byrne, and presided over by the cardinal legate, Lorenzo Lauri. The high point of the event was the celebration of mass in Phoenix Park before a crowd of over 1 million persons. The event marked a great fusion of Catholic and national pride and probably made a contribution to healing Civil War wounds.
