Dungannon clubs

Dungannon clubs, a nationalist movement launched in 1905 by Bulmer Hobson (1883–1969) and Denis McCullough (1883–1968). Although the initial reference back to the Volunteers and the constitution of 1782 was quickly superseded, and, although both founders were members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, the clubs themselves were open not secret, and promoted a more broadly defined advanced nationalism, expressed particularly in a campaign against recruitment for the British army. In 1907 the clubs merged with another body, Cumann na nGaedheal, to become the Sinn Féin League, forerunner of Sinn Féin.
