Commonwealth Labour Party

Commonwealth Labour Party, a pro‐British breakaway from the Northern Ireland Labour Party founded in December 1942 by Harry Midgley. It contested six seats at the 1945 Northern Ireland general election, winning 8 per cent of the vote, but only Midgley was elected. The party proved to be little more than a stepping stone in Midgley's political odyssey, and faded out soon after he left to join the Ulster Unionist Party in 1947.
