wall knot, a
stopper knot on a rope to prevent anything passing beyond it (see illustration overleaf). The rope is unlayed to a distance of four or five times the circumference of the rope and the individual
strands tucked over the strand behind and under the strand in front. They are then each tucked again under the two strands in front and brought up to the centre. After each strand is hauled
taut they are
whipped together close to the knot and the ends cut off. A double wall knot is known as a
manrope knot.
