lorcha

lorcha, a sailing vessel with a European-shaped hull and a Chinese junk rig. They are believed to have originated at Macao when it was first settled by the Portuguese. Vessels with the typical lateen rig of the Mediterranean, with its somewhat eastern look, led to many of them being wrongly called lorchas.
