intercept, altitude difference; in
celestial navigation the difference between the corrected
sextant altitude and the altitude at the position from which the
sight has been worked. The observed (i.e. corrected) altitude is plotted on the
chart towards or away from the body observed according to whether the calculated or the observed position is the greater.
