donkey frigate

donkey frigate, a class of small warships built for the Royal Navy at the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. They carried 28 guns and were, more accurately, ship-rigged sloops built frigate fashion, having guns protected by the upper deck, i.e. on a single gun-deck, with additional guns on the forecastle and quarterdeck.
