bare boat, or demise, charter is where the shipowner provides the vessel and puts her at the disposal of the charterer who provides the cargo and crew. This type of charter implies certain responsibilities to the charterer and its time can be measured in years. In the 1950s the Port Line chartered two vessels for seven and six years respectively. For a yacht it means the vessel must be crewed by the charterer and his friends.
