Oceania, a term sometimes used to describe the
South Seas but more accurately those South Pacific islands included in the area bounded by Hawaii in the north, Easter Island in the east, New Zealand in the south, and New Guinea in the west. This area is subdivided into Polynesia in the east, Micronesia in the north-west, and Melanesia in the south-west.
