Kearsage, USS

Kearsage, USS, one of the Federal sloops of war built during the early years of the American Civil War (1861–5). A screw steamer of 1,031 tons, her armament included four 32-pounder guns. Her most notable action was when she sank the Confederate cruiser Alabama off Cherbourg on 19 June 1864. She ran aground and was wrecked on 10 February 1894.
