Lapith in Greek mythology, a member of a Thessalian people who fought and defeated the centaurs; the battle between them after the wedding feast of the Lapith king Pirithous, when the centaurs tried to carry off the bride and other Lapith women, was a favourite topic for Greek sculptors.
