Judaea

Judaea the southern part of ancient Palestine, corresponding to the former kingdom of Judah. The Jews returned to the region after the Babylonian Captivity, and in 165 bc the Maccabees again established it as an independent kingdom. It became a province of the Roman Empire in 63 bc, and was subsequently amalgamated with Palestine.
