Segovia, Colombia, Spain Spain (Castile‐León): founded as Segóbriga, an Iberian settlement
c.700 bc. Its name is derived from the Celtic
sego ‘strong’ and
briga, a reference to the fortified settlement which it was hoped would thwart Muslim raiders; nevertheless, it was occupied by the Moors between the 8th century and 1079.
