Port Townsend, Washington/USA Settled in 1851 and named after George Townshend (1778–1855), 3rd Marquess Townshend, the h being dropped later. It is hard to know why the 3rd Marquess was honoured, since he was disinherited by his father and did not appear to contribute much to public life.
