Piedras Negras, Coahuila/Mexico Ciudad Porfirio Díaz Founded in 1849 with its present Spanish name meaning ‘Black Rocks’. In 1888 it was renamed the ‘City of Porfirio Díaz’ (1830–1915) after the long‐serving Mexican president (1877–80, 1884–1911). Díaz resigned in 1911 and went into exile. Shortly afterwards the city readopted its original name.
