Ladismith, Western Cape/South Africa Lady Smith Laid out in 1852 and named after Lady ( Juana) Smith, the Spanish wife of Sir Harry Smith (1787–1860), governor of Cape Colony (1847–52). To distinguish it from the Ladysmith in Natal, the spelling was changed in 1879.
