Jan Mayen Island, Norway Hudson's Tutches Possibly first sighted in 1607 by Henry Hudson who named it Hudson's Tutches (Touches), it was claimed for Holland in 1614 by, and named after, Jan May, a Dutch navigator and whaling captain. The island was incorporated into Norway in 1929.
