Gafurov

Gafurov, Tajikistan Leninabad, Sovetabad, Khodzhent Originally called ‘Lenin's Town’, it was renamed ‘Soviet Town’ in 1953. In 1962 this gave way to Khodzhent (which had been renamed Leninabad in 1936), but two years later Sovetabad was readopted. Finally, in 1978, it was given its present name after Bobodzhan Gafurov (1908–77), a senior member of the Communist Party in Tajikistan and a historian who was born near here.
