Colón, Argentina, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Uruguay, Venezuela Panama: founded in 1850 as Aspinwall after William H. Aspinwall (1807–85), one of the American sponsors of the Panama Railway. The city was renamed in 1890 with the Spanish version of the name Columbus.
