Ciénaga

Ciénaga, Colombia Aldea Grande The full name is San Juan de Ciénaga. Founded in 1518, the original name meant ‘Large Village’, but the town was renamed after the nearby Great Marsh (in Spanish, Ciénaga Grande) of Santa Marta after a Spanish fleet had been destroyed there in 1820. There is also a Ciénaga de Oro, Marsh of Gold, in Colombia.
