megilp. A gel-like painting medium consisting of mastic varnish mixed with linseed oil. It makes oil paint glossy and easy to manipulate, for which reason it was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries; however, it is a dangerous aid, in time rendering the paint yellow and brittle.
