Earlom, Richard

Earlom, Richard (b London, 1743; d London, 9 Oct. 1822). English reproductive printmaker. He was reckoned one of the most skilful engravers of his day and produced a wide range of work, after contemporary artists as well as the Old Masters. His most celebrated work is his set of prints (in outline etching combined with mezzotint) after Claude's drawings in his Liber veritatis, published by Boydell in two volumes in 1777. These prints inspired Turner's Liber studiorum. A third volume reproducing other drawings by Claude was added in 1819 when the first two were reprinted.
