telephone selling (telemarketing) A method of
direct marketing in which the telephone is used to contact potential customers in order to reduce the time spent in making personal visits. Certain products, such as double glazing and central heating, are frequently marketed using this technique. Orders may be taken over the phone, or arrangements are made for sales representatives to visit interested clients. See also
