computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) The use of computers to control industrial processes, such as brewing, chemical manufacture, oil refining, and steel making. They are also used to control automatic machines that can be programmed to carry out different tasks, especially in the car-manufacturing industry. CAM is often used with
computer-integrated manufacturing as well as
computer-aided design.
