Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) The largest and most important of the eight stock exchanges in Japan. There are three sections. The first lists some 1200 of the largest issues in the market. The second has around 400 stocks, with less stringent listing requirements, similar to the
Alternative Investment Market in the UK. Foreign shares are traded on the third section. Dealing is now mainly through the Computerized Order Routing and Execution System (
CORES). The main market indicator is the
Nikkei Stock Average.
