Thompson, Fred (1884–1949), playwright. Between 1913 and 1944 the London‐born librettist, working alone or with collaborators, wrote some fifty musicals. Most were for the West End, but in the 1920s he had a hand in eleven Broadway offerings, including
Lady, Be Good! (1924),
Tip‐Toes (1925),
Rio Rita (1927),
The Five o'Clock Girl (1927), and
Funny Face (1927). All but the last were written with Guy
Bolton. Shortly before his death he again worked with Bolton on
Follow the Girls (1944).
