Theatre Development Fund

Theatre Development Fund. A nonprofit corporation founded in 1967 “to stimulate the production of worthwhile plays in the commercial theatre.” The most visible manifestation of this stimulus is the TKTS booth in Times Square, at which cut‐rate tickets for Broadway and Off‐Broadway shows are sold. It also offers a “Theatre Access Program” to help handicapped playgoers obtain transportation and special seating. Finally, the Fund sponsors banquets and lectures that honor theatre artists, such as the annual TDF/ Irene Sharaff Award in costume achievement.
