Gottfried, Martin

Gottfried, Martin (b. 1933), critic and author. The native New Yorker was educated at Columbia and began writing theatre reviews for the Village Voice in the early 1960s. He later wrote for Women's Wear Daily and the New York Post, where he was considered an opinionated, hard‐to‐please, but insightful critic. Much of his later career has been spent writing books about the theatre and stage biographies.
