Eaton, Charles Henry (1813–43), actor. The son of a prosperous Boston merchant, he made his debut in his hometown in 1833 in the title role of The Stranger. Although he remained primarily a Boston actor, he toured all the leading theatrical centers, winning praise for his interpretations of Richard III, Hamlet, William Tell, and other popular figures. A fatal fall in Pittsburgh cut short a career of growing acclaim and promise.
